The deal represents the further melding of wireless service providers and content companies. Cellphones have branched out from being merely communications tools and are portals to other media. Verizon Wireless already has a deal with Disney's sports behemoth, ESPN.

Users will also receive text messages from characters and access special mobile games through a Disney program found on the phone.
"Imagine receiving up-to-the-minute tips on special park activities with just the touch of a button or receiving a call from Buzz Lightyear welcoming you to the Magic Kingdom," Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo said in a statement.
The features will be offered in specifically marketed handsets at first, but will eventually be sent wirelessly to existing cellphones. Verizon Wireless and Disney are also working to get standard park information such as show times to all mobile phones regardless of carrier.
Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson said the companies are contemplating features such as managing wait-times for various attractions. The carrier also hopes to get more exclusive content out of the deal, but is currently focused on the theme park experience.
"Today's announcement is about the overall relationship between two companies, with a promise of solid consumer and traveler applications to come as we work together," Nelson said.
Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
This isn't Disney's first foray into the mobile world. The company attempted to launch its own wireless service, Disney Mobile, complete with its own cellphones. The service was quickly scuttled due to lack of interest.
The bad news, the app will be available to Verizon subscribers only.... sucks for everyone else (like me)... _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best!

It has taken nearly 4 years, but Disney has finally released this app to other mobile providers. You can now find it in the iTunes app store and Droid marketplace... _________________ Up or Down North, South, East, or West An Adventurer's Life is Best!
