Might not be the right answer, but when the clue is "mythical" I think of Hercules.

Sorry, not Hercules.

Mythical as in not a real creature now or ever. This one in particular has a tv show (from the 60s) which featured astronauts.

Wow. I am thoroughly flummoxed by this one...Can't think of any guesses that fit all the criteria you've given, so I'll just throw Baloo from Jungle Book out there!

Nope, not Baloo. TV show featured a very young "J.R. Ewing" and the mythical character looked like a human female.
