Woman Hospitalized, 3 Hurt In Ride Fire At Disney's Animal Kingdom
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Four people were injured, including a woman who was hospitalized, when a fire broke out during a popular safari ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
The fire sparked during the theme park's Kilmanjaro Safari truck ride Sunday, prompting a woman to jump out of the truck, according to Disney.
Three others were treated for minor injuries in connection with small fire.
Disney representative Andrea Finger said a truck engine at the Kilimanjaro Safari ride caught on fire when an engine hose failed.
Finger said Disney officials are inspecting all of the vehicles before the ride reopens, which likely will happen Monday.
It is the third time in four months that someone has died or been injured at the park, Local 6 reported.
The Kilimanjaro Safari ride is a 100-acre Jeep ride with up-close views of exotic African animals.

Safari at Animal Kingdom reopens after fire

The Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom reopened on time this morning for normal operation after a truck engine fire closed the ride Sunday afternoon.
The fire was caused by a damaged engine hose. The visitors riding in the vehicle were evacuated and one 8-year-old girl reportedly injured a knee while she was exiting the vehicle and was taken to Celebration Health for treatment, a Walt Disney World spokeswoman said. Three others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Kilimanjaro Safaris involves rides aboard a multi-passenger truck, through various recreated African habitats showing off captive animals such as elephants, giraffes and lions. The ride follows a storyline that has riders on the truck pretend they are looking for poachers in an African wildlife preserve.
On Sunday the truck fire caused the truck to break down in an area that did not have any animals, said spokeswoman Andrea Finger.
The truck's engine hose was replaced and the truck is fully operational again, she said.
