Ex-Disney chief Eisner gets star on Walk of Fame

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Michael Eisner, who as Disney's CEO between 1984 and 2005 oversaw its massive growth into an entertainment giant, was honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Friday.

Flanked by actor John Travolta and current Disney chief Bob Iger, the 65-year-old was given the 2,361 star on the famed Los Angeles monument, in front of El Capitan cinema and opposite the Kodak theater, home to the Oscars.

Disney's turnover under Eisner's two-decade-long stewardship rose from 1.5 billion to 30 billion dollars, although he had to resign at the end of 2005 following a shareholders revolt over declining dividends.

Is that John Travolta?

Weird...Well like him or not he did bring on some great things for the company once upon a time. Ironic that his star is In front of the Jimmy Kimmel Live Studio just past the El Capitan Theater.

The Walk of fame isn't what it used to be. Any Celebrity with $5000 can obtain this honor.

I suppose if you also look at his stint before Disney with film companies, he does have a long history with Hollywood. That acknowledged, I am surprised to hear about this.

Getting a star is not that big of a deal. You petition the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and then pay for it. Plus Mike has been on the Hollywood scene for many years.

Anyone else realize that Bob Iger and Michael Eisner color coordinated? Travolta's "Yeehaw" moustache was distracting me previously.

I'm wondering... did Eisner petition the council for himself or did other folks do it for him....
