Miley Cyrus is saying she's sorry. Twice. For two separate groups of photographs.
First, she apologized to fans for a photo spread that's coming out in Vanity Fair. The "Hannah Montana" star says she is "embarrassed" by the photographs shot by Annie Leibovitz, ABCNews.com reported Sunday night.
Cyrus will be in Orlando this week for the Disney Channel Games. (ABC and Disney Channel are properties of the Walt Disney Co.)
"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said in a statement released Sunday. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."
Disney Channel, which presents "Hannah Montana," also issued a statement criticizing Vanity Fair.
"Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines," the cable channel said.
As for the second apology from Cyrus ...
In an exlusive to People magazine, she said she was sorry about those shots of her cavorting with her then-boyfriend and exposing her midriff. People described the ex as her producer's son.
She told People: "The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone.
"Most of all, I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life's journey."
And what's so wrong with the Vanity Fair spread? People relayed the thoughts a source close to the singer: Cyrus, though clothed, seems topless.
Does that help explain why Disney Channel is furious?
Cyrus should find a lot of support from fans in Orlando this week.

If you search the internet, it's easy to find the photo from the shoot. It wouldn't have been a big deal if she wasn't 15 years old. And there is a ton of speculation, miss information, and rumors about the situation. Kinda hard to tell what is fact and not fact right now...

I saw the pics on Good Morning America. My question was were was her mother/manager. Why didn't she steo in?

Her parents were there for part of the shoot and left before it ended. This left her grandmother and her tutor onset to watch things. One of the rumors is that the shot was originally done with her wearing something when her parents were there, then redone without it after they left... Again, part of the various rumors flying around this...
Well at least you can't see her navel...

I saw the picture in the newspaper today....I didn't think it was CRAZY or anything...maybe in poor taste.
I also don't see her as another trainwreck like Britney or Lindsay or Paris.

at 15 - I can see making a mistake. and if she did in fact learn from it, well chalk it up and move on. Could have been a LOT worse, and in the case of the some of the past Disney stars would have been a lot worse.
If the rumor of taking the shots a second time - differently after her parents left is true, then that is just appalling for the folks that did that. |
