tE, ltldeb, Daveypoo and Elorry
I can not express my gratitude to these four enough. They have created and maintain what we as members get to enjoy on a daily basis. Their hard work behind the scenes does not get the accolades that they deserve. So Guys and Gal this silly tribute is for you:
Oddly enough, those dancing banana's made me dizzy! Kinda cool! _________________ When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.

Seriously though guys, here's to you a thousand times over!
To add a slightly more serious post, UAB rocks because it helps me cut through the tedium of my computer work. To wit:
On Sunday through Thursday nights, I compile job listings for an online freelance writing newsletter, Freelance Daily (www.freelancedaily.net). The newsletter appears the next mornings, but to get it done, I not only use the function in the program that automatically pulls in listings from Craigslist, but I also scour Craigslist itself for listings the program may have missed, which is always a lot. I'm glad I'm not the one who owns the newsletter. There's also a list of websites in a Word file I access too for more listings. I prefer to be paid (which I am), rather than try to figure out how to better market the thing. We get a fair amount of subscribers anyway, as can be expected in such a specialized field. The owner lives in Texas, I live here in Southern California, and I get the newsletter done, but clicking on listing upon listing, it gets plenty tedious. After finding UAB, it's become a lot easier.
My second job online is with Screen It (www.screenit.com), devoted to giving parents the most information possible about the content of a movie so they can make an informed decision about whether or not to let their kids see a movie. The owner of the site handles the weekly mainstream releases, which involves either going to screenings offered by PR firms representing the studios (that goes for online critics and the remaining print critics as well, as they also attend those screenings), or paying to see certain movies if they're not screened in advanced, as he now has to do for the 3-D Jonas Brothers concert film (yes, even that's reviewed too) this weekend.
The bulk of the review is divided by different categories such as "Alcohol/Drugs," "Blood/Gore," and "Disrespectful/Bad Attitude" (suitable for villains), to name a few. Every single detail is in there that you might think of. Even the "Profanity" section is as accurate as we can get it. There have been movies he's gone to which have had profanity counts of over 200 "f" words. He strives for that kind of accuracy, as do I in my section of the site.
It doesn't actually belong to me (he pays me as well), since he assigns me lists of films to review, but I've written so many reviews for this part of the site of late that it seems to be my section now.
The section is accessible only to subscribers of Screen It and features reviews of films released before 1996, when Screen It began. One of the benefits of subscribing, as Jim sees it, but it's where his method of reviewing and my method differ. He goes to a screening and has to write everything down rapidly. No stopping and starting there. That's what I do when reviewing a film on DVD. I pause, write information down, and continue. That would be ridiculous if I wasn't so into movies, but I see it as really breaking a film down and seeing exactly what makes it work.
Lately, I've taken to using my dad's laptop which makes it go faster because at least I don't have to type out the notes on the main computer in the living room afterward, which would take a lot longer. I have a flash drive I save everything to, so all I do is plug it into the living room computer and save the files to "My Documents" and begin.
The review itself, inputting all the information in all those categories (there's 15), writing a one-line plot summary in the "Quick Take" section, a more detailed plot summary in "Plot," and character descriptions in "Cast as Role Models," well, you can see the tedium right there. Plus there's the "Our Take" section which is your average movie review, without taking into consideration any of what was listed in the main review.
So you can see the tedium in copying and pasting from typed notes into the review template in the different categories. I love the work, mind you, but lately, in reviewing "Die Hard 2: Die Harder," there's been a lot to put into the review. Also, when it comes to violence in a film, I actually quickly type out all the details of fights. Years ago, I used to write fight summaries for virtual online boxing matches (fantasy boxing, it seemed like, and that site liked to have weekly reports on hand), when I was into boxing, so that kind of experience helps. I prefer hand-to-hand combat between two people, because it's only two people and that's the easiest, such as in the climax of "Die Hard 2."
So thank goodness for UAB. To travel through the worlds of the Disney theme parks and resorts while doing this detailed work makes the work a heck of a lot easier.
Thank you Jason for starting this thread and making me cry.
Thank you to everyone else that added to it. Like tE said in the announcement, UAB is YOUR community and it's you members that helped make us all one big family. _________________ *~deb~*

This has been one of the greatest groups of people I have ever had the privelidge to know. Everyone is kind, welcoming, and best of all, Disney Freaktoids! I am very glad that UAB is sticking around, because its more than just music. Its nice people to enjoy with your music. Thank you Deb, tE, Dave, and Ellory for keeping this family going.
I'm still kinda new here...but I love this place. It is far better than Subsonic (much more relaxed admin) and the wealth of music and audio is incredible. If you are ever able to manufacture your own jukebox like D-Cot so people can listen to their own favorites at any time...it will be stupendous. _________________ "Hold onto to your hats and glasses cuz' this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness."
