|

I'm pretty sure this is going to get some people all riled up, but I thought it was a pretty good article....
Over at ESPN, they did an article that tracks college football teams and compares their pre-season rankings with their season ending rankings. This was done to show who are the most overrated and most underrated teams of the last 10 years...
Now, so of you might know, that I'm a pretty big Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan... there has been this joke that Notre Dame is the most overrated college football team of all time... Well, according to this article, Notre Dame is not even in the top 10 (but Florida is, funny huh)....
Here are the rankings from the article:
Quote: |
ESPN.com examined which teams were the most overrated and underrated over the last 10 college football seasons by taking a team's preseason ranking in the AP Top 25 poll and compared it to where that team finished the season. Here are the highlights:
Most overrated teams in last 10 years:
1. Florida State (-63)
2. Tennessee (-58 )
3. Washington (-42)
4. Miami (-35)
T5. Ohio State (-34)
T5. Nebraska (-34)
7. Florida (-33 1/2)
8. Michigan (-25)
9. Texas (-24)
10. Clemson (-22)
Most underrated teams in last 10 years:
1. Washington St. (+51)
2. Boise State (+48 )
3. Oregon (+32 1/2)
4. Arkansas (+26)
5. Wisconsin (+23)
6. Louisville (+20)
7. TCU (+18 )
T8. Boston College (+17)
T8. Iowa (+17)
T8. Maryland (+17)
BCS Conferences:
1. Pac-10 (+60 1/2)
2. Big East (+9)
3. Big 10 (+3)
4. SEC (-12 1/2)
5. Big 12 (-78 1/2)
6. ACC (-102)

Here is a link to the actual article, http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/preview07/columns/story?columnist=schlabach_mark&id=2980407, that explains how they came up with their numbers and figures....
What do you guys think? |

Funny how Florida won TWO football titles in that ten year period and were in the SEC championship game numerous times. Of course pre-season polls are a joke. I remember the year SI said Oregon should be #1 and got the Cr** kicked out of them by my Alum Fresno State.
By the way I figured I was supposed to respond since Daguru singled out UF. _________________ Jason

Well, considering that Notre Dame has stunk for about 15 years, 5 years is enough for its stench to waft up to the pollsters, so no wonder they HAVEN'T overrated ND in the last 10 (hides with Ellory). However, Charlie Weis is the real deal and I'm sure they'll be good for years to come.
The pollsters forget that the ACC plays football as well as basketball.
I'm glad to see that my Nittany Lions are on neither list... If you recall, we kicked the poo out of FSU in the 2006 Orange Bowl. Now, if it wasn't for that last minute failure at Michigan... |

That is crazy i believe washington, tennessee, and clemson are over rated but the rest kind of shock me especially florida,Texas, and ohiost they are always up there in the top 10 and considering their level of competition in their respective conferences would make them even less overrated to me,but that just my opinion. What do you guys think bout USC being no.1 in the preseason poll? I think it stinks but I can't stand PAC-10 football. I love SEC football the quality of teams I think are the best in any conference and I think the national champs coming from the SEC!!!! No disrespect to Notre dame I like coach Weis but with a new QB i think it will be rough this year. And in case anyone was wondering I am a huge Auburn fan! Thank goodness for football season!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I was born across the street from Notre Dame, at South Bend Memorial Hospital...and it's been about 15 years since I admitted that to anyone....I used to live in Evanston, Illinois, too....maybe it's me..... _________________

I personally think pre-season polls are crap.... They make it difficult for anyone low in the poll (or even outside) to move up the poll...
I think there should be no polls, until the BCS starts (which I believe is the three or forth week of the season)... Then we start the polls...
Pre-season polls give an unfair advantage to the teams at the top, whether they deserve them or not... |
