Starbilia has closed. That was always a neat store to walk around.

Sosa's better not close.....

:Bump: jeez, no love for this post! i've seen a few places around the intarwebs crying unauthentic, due to the companies that would give an item such designation (poor reputations). i admit, it was a fun shop to look around, but apart from the trinket type stuff you could buy (metal lunchboxes, coasters, figurines), i can't imagine they really got much business. most of the affordable stuff you could get at your local spencer's.

i can't believe magnetron, hoypoloi & magic master are still alive... well, magnetron is probably the most lucrative of the 3... dang it, now i want chocolate covered marshmallows from candy cauldron. no wait, a wetzel's pretzel and a slush... hey matt, can we go see ponyo? Very Happy

restaurants, cirque and quest seem to be keeping west side afloat. oh, and maybe characters in flight. there needs to be more distribution of boutique shops with disneyana throughout all of downtown disney. what does everyone else think? come on! let's get a discussion going!

i'll wait, but for now, i play madden while listening to el rio del tiempo...

DTD in Disneyland is SIMILAR to West Side. Not much "Pure Disney", but a nice collection of things (Build-A-Bear with exclusive Disney items, makeup place for adults and kids, clothing, etc). But the big difference there is that Disneyland's DTD is a place where people go on a Friday and Saturday night to hang (like a local mall). They have musicians all over the place and it's a fun atmosphere. Maybe WDW should look more to their model.

I've never been to DL, and looking at a map, its DTD size is (obviously) much smaller. The store listing looks like a mix of WDW's DTD & Universal's CityWalk. It would be great for DTD here to model after DL's. Or, you know, go back to how it was with PI. There was much more of a reason to go at night then. Maybe over the next couple years we can get it back to it's former glory...

Re; CA version, it is smaller but the biggest problem with it is: They have not enough benches or trees to provide shade. It is a big concrete slab to reflect the heat.

Re, WDW, I think the days of the dance clubs is long gone and bars will not pay the bills. They should look at (Yes it will turn into an Adventurer's Club thread) bringing back not just the adventurer's Club but also putting in some dinner shows. Perhaps the completed Tiki Room show but on a larger scale.

The bars can not pay for themselves and many people do not go dancing any more but if they had a variety of different shows, it would keep people on Disney property (Disney salivates at that idea) and provide them the entertainment they get on International Drive

Now THAT'S an idea! The Adventurers Club was a lot like a dinner show, they could do all sorts of things. Keep it family-friendly if they must, but at least consider keeping the grownups there rather than Downtown Orlando or City Walk.

Need to find a way to make the dinner shows good enough to draw crowd, but not drain existing dinner shows.

They might consider having one where they simply host various traveling performance troups,.

That way the show would be constantly a new show as the troups move on and a new show moves in.

I am sure there are other themes they could use as well...

Western is covered at hoop de do,
Hawaiian at Poly

Could do a Disney princess show
Could do a Pirates dinner show
Could do a Adventurer's club or Jungle cruise show
Could do a Haunted Mansion themed show with Gracie and Leota going at each other
Could do a murder mystery... if you need to Disney it, make it a Roger Rabbit theme.

What other types of shows could they have?

Arabian dinner theme ( jasmine and alladin )

magic show ( like in vegas)

put in a Walt disney museum type attraction

or better yet put all MOTHBALLED ideas that never came about on display as a museum of Disney that never was or one day might be.... Razz

Or they could just try and NOT fix what wasn’t really broken (Adventurer’s Club, Comedy Warehouse). As for a princess or pirates show, that will typically cater more towards younger girl or boy. Plus it would be just another character dining experience/meet & greet, and we have enough of that. Also, Orlando already has dinner shows for Pirate, Arabian, Medieval, Murder Mystery… Disney needs to have some fun stuff over at DTD to cater more to the older crowd. There are still plenty of options for the younger kids to enjoy: DisneyQuest, T-Rex, Rainforest, Lego… I like having stuff like HOB, Paradiso 37, Raglan Road... But they do need to have more in the entertainment realm once again - something like Biergarten over at Epcot, but a hard ticket experience.

doing shows similar to what is available in the rest of Orlando is part of the idea. Keep the folks on-site that otherwise would be going off-site. . .

I'm fine with brings stuff like comedy club or adventurers club back, but don't see it happening. If they wanted to bring it back with out admitting their mistake.... then theme it after UP!. That would allow an adventurers club based on the movie that could be used to re-tackle that same theme
