Nope, not the castles. Commonality is between the 2 stories.

Could they be the first two Disney princess movies set in France?

They might be, but not not what I was going for.

Both princesses wore gowns in two colors (Aurora while the fairies were arguing about the color, Cinderella when her stepsisters tore it up)?

It's more about the back stories.

Boy, I’m coming up blank here. Probably overthinking it.

Probably not, I'm bad at hinting.

These 2 stories were published in 1697 by the same French author Charles Perrault. Disney used these for inspiration & not the versions published by the Brothers Grimm ~ 100yrs later.

Disney definitely did not use the earliest published versions which involved death, a fatal fire, and other nsfw happenings..

Boy, I was altogether on the wrong track! I knew the original story for Sleeping Beauty was certainly nothing for children!

What classic character did Walt Disney himself actually play the role of in a school production?

Nope. Character is from a Disney feature just slightly more modern than Pinocchio.

Not Dumbo (but that would have been an hilarious costume!). Character was a flyer though.
